Leo Dickson & Sons Inc., a Steuben County operation, used the
special rate environmental program to finance a Bion Nutrient Management System® for their dairy and heifer facilities. The system includes multiple lagoon cells, aerators, two miles of pipe and irrigation equipment.

“Substantial interest savings through Farm Credit’s environmental loan program helped us make this long-term investment. The end result of the system is an irrigated liquid and sterilized compost material,” says Phil Dickson. “It is more thorough than typical manure management systems.

“Producers are always glad they made environmental enhancements — after the projects are done! But sometimes we
need encouragement to make those changes. Farm Credit’s
environmental loan program gives us the assistance we need.
It is a vote of confidence in agricultural producers — we can
run successful farming operations and take care of the environment, too.”
