Farm Credit’s Laurie Andrus (r) with Hope and Joe Trappler on a red & white oak logging job. |
Joe Trappler is an independent logger who buys standing timber and operates two cutting crews throughout western New York and northern Pennsylvania. Farm Credit financial service specialist Laurie Andrus provides JT Logging with records, tax and payroll services. Joe shared his experience with Financial Partner magazine:
“I grew up on a dairy farm and gradually expanded my logging |
operation into a full-time business over the past eleven years. Hope and I have relied on Farm Credit records and tax services for three years.
We now use Farm Credit to prepare weekly payroll and 1099s for contract workers. We did not want to be caught in a payroll tax bind paying too much or too little. We needed to avoid mistakes, especially with all the payroll rules. The complete records, tax and payroll service has allowed me to better manage my investment in equipment and cutting crews.
With Laurie’s help and an operating loan, I can compete and be profitable as an independent logger. I spend my time looking for timber stands, preparing bids and spending time with log buyers. That is my strength. That is where I make my money.”
