Farm Credit Scholarship Winners Announced Charlie Miller, Farm Credit of Western New York, Vice Chairman announced three recipients of $2,000 scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year. The credit and financial services cooperative awarded the scholarships based on applicants’ interest in agriculture, extracurricular activities and essay describing the greatest opportunity for agriculture today and what producers and agribusinesses should do to take advantage of that opportunity. Chelsey Keeler of Bath, NY is a senior at Haverling High School where she is active in music, soccer and National Honor Society. Chelsey will pursue a food science degree at Cornell University. Amy Lack of Webster, NY is a pre-veterinary freshman at The University of Findlay. A Webster Schroeder High School graduate, Amy was active in 4-H, horse club and band. Emmaline Long of Bergen, NY is a senior at Byron-Bergen High School where she is active in swimming, band and 4-H. Emmaline will pursue an agricultural science degree at Cornell University. “Western New York agriculture has a vibrant future.” said Miller, a Genesee County crop and swine farmer. “Farm Credit of Western New York is proud to encourage these young adults and foster their future contributions to agriculture.” The 16-county Association is part of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide financial cooperative that lends to agriculture and rural America. The Association has offices in Batavia, Geneva, Hornell and Mayville, and serves over 3,400 members. |
